Dr. Laurie Colgrove Williams

Dr. Laurie Colgrove Williams is the Artistic Director and Conductor of the Symphony Orchestra with the Youth Orchestras of Lubbock, where she is currently in her twenty second season with the program. Under her direction, the YOL Symphony Orchestra was recently awarded with an invitation to perform and compete against select orchestras from around the country at the American String Teachers Association National Orchestra Festival in Albuquerque, New Mexico on March 8, 2019. Dr. Williams has had a highly versatile career as a music educator spanning 27 years. She is currently serving as a Lecturer of Music Education at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Previous collegiate appointments include service as Interim Assistant Professor of Music Education at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and Instructor of Music Education at Texas Tech University. Prior to her university service, Dr. Williams taught for fifteen years in K-12 public school settings working with orchestras, bands, and choirs in Amarillo, Ralls, San Antonio and Lubbock, TX. She is also a professional violist, performing with the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra since 1994 and with numerous orchestras throughout Texas and New Mexico since 1992. Beyond her regular duties, Dr. Williams maintains an active conducting and teaching schedule, serving frequently as a clinician and judge for instrumental groups in Texas, Kansas and Missouri. She is also an active researcher in the field of music education, having presented her work at music conferences throughout the United States. She is a Red Raider through and through, having earned three degrees from Texas Tech University. Dr. Williams holds a Ph.D. in Fine Arts as well as a Bachelor and Masters degree in Music Education. She is married to Todd Williams, a former LSO Violist, and has four boys: Justin Anderson, Connor, Sawyer, and Carson Williams.
