Lubbock Youth Symphony Orchestra Program

The purpose of the LYSO Program is to provide a high quality orchestral and ensemble training for young musicians in Lubbock and the surrounding areas by offering a variety of performance experiences and professional music guidance to its members. Dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in musical education and performance, the orchestras offer the opportunity for young, gifted musicians to discover within themselves a source of enrichment, beauty and the means of aesthetic expression, which will last a lifetime.

Learn More About LYSO

The LYSO Program has three orchestras:

  • Symphony Orchestra(advanced) - Designed for advanced string and wind players, this orchestra provides performance opportunities for more accomplished musicians, an annual concerto competition and chamber ensemble opportunities. Members participate in the annual fall retreat, a side-by-side concert with the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra (held most years), the annual 4th on Broadway Fireworks Concert and occasional outreach performances.
  • Philharmonic Orchestra(intermediate to advanced) - Designed for the intermediate to advanced string and wind players, these members parrticipate in the annual fall retreat and occasional outreach performances.
  • Prelude Strings(beginning to intermediate) - Designed for beginning to intermediate string players, this orchestra serves less experienced musicians by developing their performance technique in order to prepare them for participation in the other orchestras. Members participate in the annual fall retreat and occasional outreach performances.
